Witchcraft as a radical path of re-enchantment.
Why witchcraft?
The occult is not always a healthy or happy path and The Occult Safety Project (TOSP) is born of a perceived need for more accountability and ethics across the Occultsphere. TOSP seeks to promote discourse on ethics and safety from a wide range of perspectives. We are not wedded to a particular narrative on ethics or safety, we trust that healthier discussions and discourse can lead to healthier relationships and community. Our hope is to encourage that.
The Occult community often boasts of seeking and wielding power and yet stubbornly refuses to accept the scrutiny, accountability and responsibility that all power and status holders should be subjected to. TOSP aspires to shed light on group dynamics, abuses of power, healthy boundaries and toxic behaviour. Our modus operandi will be broad discussions based in science, philosophy and experience. Whilst we may discuss the behaviours and dynamics of deceased individuals, we will not be calling out any modern or contemporary occultists or groups. We aim to uphold a general stance of objective neutrality and plurality.
Why re-enchantment?
Occultism incorporates a wide range of esoteric, magical, pagan and supernatural spiritual beliefs, expressions and practices. In its broadest sense the word “occult” is used to refer to the pursuit of hidden wisdom but TOSP’s usage can be defined as it refers to “occulture”. A wide community of people who engage in forms of alternative spirituality which can vary from neo-animism to Satanism, from Witches, Druids and Asatru to Chaos magicians, Thelemites and Goetia peeps. Whether you wield a wand, a sword, axe, quill, bone, feather or stang, whether you wear fairy wings, robes, leather, costume, ball gown, tuxedo, track pants, the blood of your enemies or nothing at all, for our purposes, we consider you part of the occultsphere.
The occult can be a weird and wondrous place. A very diverse range of people find themselves exploring the path. TOSP hopes to appeal to beginners and experienced occultists alike. Occulture is the combined efforts of the entire community, so we endeavour to speak to any and all issues that relate to ethics and safety across those communities.
